Frank H. Burnside

In 1913, Frank H. Burnside and his assistant headed West in a Thomas Headless Pusher Biplane to join the Thomas Brothers Flying School in Bath, New York conducting a 4th of July aerial demonstration as part of their 4th of July celebration in Ely, Nevada.   They assembled the aircraft next to a garage in Ely and, on July 4th, after 200 feet the plane went airborne from the west end of Avenue C where it eventually reached an altitude of 9,421 feet above sea level.  Burnside completed two more flights that day and was afterwards carried through the streets of town on the shoulders of onlookers.

For his role in the introduction of aviation into northeastern Nevada, Frank H. Burnside earned his place in the Nevada Aerospace Hall of Fame.
